Professional Steel Structure Design: From 3D Model to Drawing Ready to Use with Weldments"

1. Basics and Creation of 3D Sketch

  • Understanding Weldments: Activating the Environment Weldments (Environment) and the Importance of Weldments in Multibody Part Structure Management

  • 3D Sketching: Using 3D Sketch to define structural (steel frame) lines in three dimensions, which is the foundation of weldments.

  • Structural Planning: Properly drawing sketches according to engineering and manufacturing principles.

2. Structural Member Creation

  • Structural Member: Using the Structural Member command to insert standard steel profiles (e.g., box members, angle members, and I-section members) along the lines of the created 3D Sketch.

  • Group Management: Grouping lines to facilitate efficient steel profile creation and management.

  • Custom Profile Creation: Creating and saving steel profiles of dimensions not in the standard library for use in projects.

3. Welding and Cutting Detail Management

Corner Treatment: Professionally managing the angles and cutting of structural members (End Treatment), such as:

  • Miter: 45-degree bevel cuts to meet at corners.

  • Butt: Straight butt cuts.

  • Fine-Tuning Corner Modification

  • Trim/Extend: Using the Trim/Extend command to cut/extend steel parts to fit and join them correctly along the weld line.

  • End Cap and Gusset: Adding additional details.

  • End Cap: Adding end caps or profiles.

  • Gusset: Adding triangular plates to reinforce structural corners.

4. Cut List Management and Drawings

  • Cut List: Understanding and automatically managing the Cut List, the heart of weldments.

  • Adding necessary properties to the Cut List (e.g., cut length, material, quantity).

  • Configuring the Bounding Box to specify the overall dimensions of the part for estimation.

  • Weldment Drawing: Creating ready-to-use 2D shop drawings.

  • Automatically inserting the Cut List Table into the drawing.

  • Displaying individual body views and details of individual parts (Individual Body Views)

  • Weld Beads: Adding weld symbols and creating virtual weld beads in models and drawings.
